Commemoration of Comrade Annamalai: The Way Forward for the Tamil Nation

A commemoration event in memory of Comrade Annamalai, a Politburo member of the Nava Sama Samaja Party (NSSP), held under the theme “The Way Forward for the Tamil Nation.” The programme brought together political activists, academics and civil society representatives to reflect on Annamalai’s political legacy and discuss contemporary challenges facing the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.

Comrade Annamalai was a senior political leader of the NSSP who consistently advocated for democracy, social justice and the political rights of the Tamil people. During the years of armed conflict, he remained committed to a political solution based on equality and self-determination while opposing ethnic oppression. He was assassinated by the LTTE, a killing that drew widespread condemnation.

The event featured speeches by a number of invited speakers representing different political and intellectual perspectives. Organizers say the commemoration aimed not only to honour Annamalai’s contribution to the socialist movement but also to encourage dialogue on achieving a just and democratic future for the Tamil nation through peaceful and progressive political engagement.

Main speeches at the event are given below.
