List of dead non-Tamil LTTE fighters published by Jaffna newspaper
Jaffna’s ‘Uthayan’ newspaper, in its 23 November edition, published a list of 64 non-Tamil LTTE fighters who died in the war.
It comprises the names of three Sinhalese, one Burgher and 60 Muslim men.
A Burgher, Bernard Edwards died on 23.02.1985.
The dead Sinhalese LTTE fighters are Mudunkotuwa Udugamage Hemasiri, died on 13.02.1985, Gamini Fabian Aniston, died on 04.05.1987 and Martin Silva Jayachandra who died on 15.09.2007.
Kunjubanda Ranasinghe died on 04.10.1999 and Mohammad Alipha Mohammad Hasan died on 28.04.1987.
The newspaper also listed 11 out of the 60 Muslim LTTE fighters by their given names.
Grassroots Tamil activists have pointed out the difficulty in compiling a complete list, saying more than 20,400 tombs at LTTE cemeteries had been destroyed by the military.
