Film on post war Sri Lanka screening in Colombo
“Muttrupulliyaa” (Scars of Tomorrow), an Indo-Lanka joint production directed by Sherine Xavier will be screened in Colombo.
The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by documentary filmmaker Anomaa Rajakaruna.
The 2016 film tells the story of four individuals navigating their lives in post-war Sri Lanka. It speaks about their silent struggles, unfulfilled desires, and the challenges they face every day. Like so many others, it tells the story of Tamils longing for dignity, justice, and peace.
This film is based on true stories about life in Sri Lanka after the war, told through the perspectives of a former combatant living in Jaffna, a historian from the Vanni region, an environmental activist from Colombo, and a young journalist from Chennai.
The film shares their experiences of pain and suffering—wounds that remain unhealed, scars that are hard to ignore, and the enduring emotions of pain and hope. This gripping tale of loss, betrayal, and struggle ultimately seeks to inspire and call for action.
“Without question, the history of the Tamil struggle—like the Tamil community’s relationship with the Tigers—is complicated, but the fight for dignity and peace is far from over. As the pain continues to burn and the calls for justice remain unheeded, the scars of tomorrow grow deep and wide,” says independent film maker Sherine Xavier.
